La somptueuse salle de conférence du Ledger Plaza a abrité ce 20 Mai 2026 la cérémonie du lancement officiel du Programme Gestion des ressources en eau du lac Tchad- LACHAWAMA.
Placée sous le haut patronage du Président de la République, Chef de l’Etat, Son Excellence PR Faustin Archange TOUADERA, la cérémonie a regroupé plusieurs invités de marque parmi lesquels le Premier Ministre, Chef du Gouvernement monsieur Félix MOLOUA.
Il est important de souligner que le bassin du Lac Tchad est l’un des vastes bassins transfrontaliers d’Afrique qui regroupe le Cameroun, le Tchad, le Niger, le Nigeria, et la République Centrafricaine. Son étendue est de 2,4 millions de Km2, soit 8% de la surface du continent africain. Le bassin nourrit environ 50 millions d’habitants qui vivent autour et l’exploitent.
La République Centrafricaine fait partie des États-membres de la Commission du Bassin du Lac Tchad depuis son adhésion en1996.
La cérémonie de ce jour qui, vise à lancer le programme de gestion des ressources en eau du lac Tchad deuxième génération, est un signe de la « responsabilité communautaire et de la profonde conscience des enjeux climatiques » pour la sous-région. » Elle est une « initiative vitale pour les ressources en eau des 5 États-membres de la CBLT.
Pour la circonstance, le numéro un centrafricain, Pr Faustin Archange TOUADERA a remercié ses pairs de la Commission qui ont bien voulu choisir la RCA pour le lancement de la phase 2 du programme.
Il a ensuite exprimé sa pensée sur le rôle important, historique et stratégique que joue la RCA dans le ravitaillement en eau du lac Tchad. « La République Centrafricaine est une fontaine de l’hydro-système du bassin du lac Tchad… ce qui vient avec une responsabilité socio-environnementale particulière » a déclaré le Président Centrafricain.
En effet, les rivières Logone et Chari, principaux affluents du Lac Tchad prennent naissance en territoire centrafricain.
Le Chef de l’Etat a poursuivi son allocution en lançant un plaidoyer pour la mobilisation des partenaires, des acteurs du secteur privé, ceux de la société civile pour la concrétisation des actions définies dans le programme.
» Sauvons le bassin du Lac Tchad pour le bien-être de l’humanité » a conclu le Pr TOUADERA.
Il convient de rappeler que le programme de gestion des ressources en eau du lac Tchad est cofinancé par l’Union Européenne et le gouvernement allemand.

THE PRIME MINISTER ATTENDED THE OFFICIAL LAUNCH CEREMONY FOR THE LAKE CHAD LACHAWAMA APPLIED WATER RESOURCES MANAGEMENT PROGRAM
On May 20, 2026, the sumptuous conference hall of the Ledger Plaza hosted the official launch ceremony for the Lake Chad-LACHAWAMA Water Resources Management Program.
Held under the high patronage of the President of the Republic and Head of State, His Excellency Faustin Archange TOUADERA, the ceremony brought together several distinguished guests, including the Prime Minister and Head of Government, Mr. Félix MOLOUA.
It is important to note that the Lake Chad basin is one of Africa’s vast transboundary basins, encompassing Cameroon, Chad, Niger, Nigeria, and the Central African Republic. It covers an area of 2.4 million km², representing 8% of the African continent’s surface area. The basin supports approximately 50 million people who live around it and depend on it.
The Central African Republic has been a member state of the Lake Chad Basin Commission since its accession in 1996.
Today’s ceremony, which aims to launch the second-generation Lake Chad water resources management program, is a sign of “community responsibility and a deep awareness of climate challenges” for the subregion. It is a « vital initiative for the water resources of the five member states of the CBLT.
On this occasion, the Central African leader, Prof. Faustin Archange TOUADERA, thanked his counterparts on the Commission for choosing the CAR as the venue for the launch of Phase 2 of the program.
He then spoke about the important, historic, and strategic role that the CAR plays in the water supply of Lake Chad. “The Central African Republic is a source of the Lake Chad basin’s hydrological system… which comes with a particular socio-environmental responsibility,” declared the Central African President.
Indeed, the Logone and Chari rivers, the main tributaries of Lake Chad, originate in Central African territory.
The Head of State continued his address by calling for the mobilization of partners, private sector actors, and civil society to implement the actions outlined in the program.
“Let us save the Lake Chad basin for the well-being of humanity,” concluded Prof. TOUADERA.
It should be noted that the Lake Chad water resources management program is co-financed by the European Union and the German government.
